Mental Health Ministry

O Comfort My People
In Spring 2021, Westminster Presbyterian Church applied for and received an O Comfort My People mental health ministry grant through the Presbyterian Mission Agency. Through this generous funding, WPC officially launched its congregational work of building awareness, skills, and resources around mental health.
Since then, we’ve had mental health-themed worship services, special workshops and seminars (including Mental Health First Aid training) and personal sharing opportunities.

We hope to de-stigmatize mental health challenges. We also hope to connect people coping with mental health challenges to resources using tools from within the rich spirituality of the Christian faith and beyond it.

Have your insurance card ready to make an appointment
There are many types of mental health providers including psychologists and psychiatrists. In Washington state, counseling is done mostly by masters level practitioners licensed as a mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist or clinical social workers, also some peer counselors.
Call your health insurance or Apple Health Medicaid Customer Service or Member Services number and ask them to find a provider in your zip code or city. All insurance carriers have a website with a provider directory online which you can also use.
Other counselors may be available that are not covered by your insurance and you may get an appointment and pay privately (out of pocket) depending on your need. Community health centers such as SEAMAR may provide mental health counseling on a sliding fee scale based on your income and assets
Trained Counselors and/or Volunteers are available at a variety of phone numbers. Always call 911 first if you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency or may be a danger to themselves or others.
211 is a health and social services number to call to find assistance locating long-term mental health resources, talking through a problem, or exploring mental health treatment options, call 211 to speak with a live person who can help. 211 conversations are confidential, can be made anonymously, and are available in 180 languages upon request.
